My hands are warm as I place them on the top of my friend Allison’s head. She is lying peaceful on her back in a sea of comfy pillows. I’ve selected the playlist deemed “Mystic Shit” from my Spotify to help guide us through the process. It’s mostly binaural beats and shamanic drumming. I place crystals on seven extremely special spots of her body. Now, with my hands a few inches above the top of her head, I begin her Reiki session. Immediately, I feel a cool breeze exiting Allison’s head which is energy flowing from her crown chakra. I make sure we are using the universe’s unlimited supply of source energy as my hands make their way to her third eye chakra. Upon arrival, I notice a strong resistance. Imagine a pillow on top of Allison’s face, making it virtually impossible to place my hands over her eye area. Even though there is no physical barrier (no pillow) between my hands and her face, there is one beefy energetic obstruction. I realize she has a blocked Third Eye Chakra. With the help of visualization, universal energy, and energetically cleansed crystals, I can unblock her third eye chakra, so that once again, we can feel that cool breeze beaming out of her body.
So what are these nebulous things called Chakras? Why are they an important and integral part of our physical and mental health? Below is a guide to Chakras that I’ve compiled from years of reading, channeling, experiencing, and learning from the many gurus that I am forever grateful to have in my life.
There are seven main chakras that are located along the spine extending out the front and back of the body. “Chakra” is a Sanskrit word that literally means “wheel.” They received that name because they actually look like circular spinning wheels made of pure energy (I can see and feel them at times and will tell you more about that in later posts). They exist in our etheric body, which is the non-material energetic counterpart to our physical body.
These energetic centers represent our spiritual, mental, emotional, physical health, split into a spectrum of colors. The openness and flow of energy through our chakras determine our state of health and balance. Knowledge of our more subtle energy system empowers us to maintain balance and harmony on the physical, mental and spiritual level. All meditation and yoga systems seek to balance out the energy of the chakras by purifying the lower energies and guiding them upwards. If you can truly tune in or at least take the proper steps of mastering each chakra’s essence by uniting them all into a unified field of brilliance- your mind will literally be blown at how much your overall well being will improve. (Your mind will literally be blown at how much your overall well being will improve if you can truly tune in or at least take the proper steps of mastering each chakra’s essence by uniting them all into a unified field of brilliance). Through the use of grounding and living consciously with an awareness of how we acquire and spend our energy, bringing in more light, meditation, and properly shielding ourselves, we become capable of balancing our life force with our mental, physical and spiritual selves.
Below maps out the primary qualities of each chakra, its corresponding location in the body, color, physical and emotional realms of influence, and its greater significance.
